Ever since we set up the Writers Supporting Writers Blog, there have been a few problems with it. Despite the settings, there was no Reblog button. No one but blog authors could Like posts. Follows didn’t work.
I’ve been fiddling around with the settings, and have finally managed to add the Reblog button. I’ve also seen a few additional Likes on the previous post, so I hope that’s working as well.
As for Follows, does anyone see a Follow button in the lower right corner? Most blogs seem to have these. Has anyone tried to follow this blog without success?
Please test the Like, Follow, or Reblog functions, and let us know what happens via a comment. No, this isn’t a sneaky scheme to attract follows!

I’m delighted to be able to reblog this post in the normal way. Here’s hoping that the WSW blog will be more functional now.

I left a like in addition to this comment. I notice that I am now shown as following the blog, whereas I wasn’t before.

The “follow” in the lower right-hand corner is working.:-) And I was able to “like.”

No reblog button. I think this is a common problem with the newer version of WP – someone told me they have to add the function to each post!

Are you sure, Cage? I see a reblog button right next to the like button.

I didn’t see the reblog button, just the like button. Absolutely. I’ll try it again (sometimes, things are not the same the second time around!).

I think wordpress is just weird sometimes, Cage!

The reblog button is there, except for me it says “Reblogged.” The WP help people’s advice is always to clear one’s cache. I think that helped me to fix the problems. I wonder if it would help if you did that. (I admit I really don’t know a lot about the cache.)

I clear my cache all the time, in fact every time I move from site to site. The only thing that changed (and I tested it with a reblog of someone else’s site which didn’t have a reblog button yesterday) was how I accessed the site/s through the comment notifications and not the reader.

Another WP mystery!

Okay, the reblog button is there this time. I have no idea what’s going on. None whatsoever. It’s only been a few minutes, and the only change is in how I access the site (this time, it’s not through the reader, but through the comments sent to me and linking to the site that way).
Signed, confused Cage

I could sign myself confused as well! To be honest, I don’t really know why messing with the settings did the trick this time.
But I am glad that others are seeing the Reblog button!

I was able to like, and there was a ‘follow this blog’ link next to it, so I’ve clicked on that and am now following 🙂

That’s good, Debra! It seems things are working properly now. Thanks for helping with testing.

Already following. Gave a like. I see no reblog button.

Well…now I see it.

It seems to depend on whether you use the Reader or see the post some other way. One of the mysteries of WordPress.

The Like function works. The Follow button is below the Post Comment line. I had already followed this one. But I don’t see a Reblog button anywhere.

Someone said the reblog button showed if they accessed the post through the Reader, but not otherwise.
Thanks for checking!

Yes! Sorry, replies before reading this 🤦♂️ And the problem with the Follow (for blogs you already follow) also disappears on the Reader. There, if you follow the blog it says “Following” as it should. Once again, this is not only for your Writers supporting Writers blog. It’s a rather common occurrence. For example, your Audrey Driscoll blog, too, although I’ve been following you, when seeing it normally (aka not from Reader) it appears as if I’m not following you.

Yes, I’ve noticed this too. Some blogs (maybe self-hosted?) don’t have that Follow option that comes and goes at all.

Sometimes one feels there might be somewhere in a forbidden place a dusty thick tome entitled:
‘The Codex of Word Press’.
‘Like’ seems to have stayed and ‘following’

Hi Audrey, a notification for this post came to my email for the first time so that is working for me. I could also like the post. I don’t see a reblog button.

It seems the Reblog button is evanescent. 🙂 As long as it’s there when I want to reblog a WSW post on Audrey Driscoll’s Blog, I’m happy.

That’s not unique to this blog, but it happens quite a lot, recently, on WordPress.
Although I’m logged in, when I try to click the follow (I have to scroll up to see it appear at the bottom right, as it doesn’t appear otherwise) it asks me to log in.
With the likes there isn’t much of a problem. A popup window appears to help me log in, and then it realises I’m logged in and accepts the like.
Replying though is another issue. It practically asks to set an account, or use email.
Mind you, those happen even in some blogs I already follow. 🤷♂️
Today I found a solution, by luck. If you click to the “…” next to the “Follow” and chose “Vie pose in Reader”, then you can follow, like and comment like normal. The reblog button also appears on Reader, while it doesn’t appear (to me) when I see the post on your site 🙄

I’ve noticed that popup that happens when I try to like a comment on someone’s blog. Sometimes it takes 2 or even 3 tries before the Like is accepted.
WP has quite a few quirks!
