One writes for the money or writes for the art, the passion & desire. If for money, all bets are off, any tool to give you a leg up is on the table. Arguing the adverse impacts if AI is like indigenous Americans complaining about European conquest: a little too late.
When writing for writing’s sake, the use of AI lies upon a spectrum, none to ideation, correction & critique.
I’ll admit, when reading, I’d like to know to what extent AI was used. But that’s here and now. When AI writes better than 99% of writers? I prolly won’t care.
As far as AI ever ceasing to learn, to progress? Only lack of capacity and energy will curtail that.
I’m a programmer, 30+ years. I will not have a job in two years due to the advances in AI. This is inevitable. Writing, software or fiction, is a knowledge-based craft. Creativity comes from the cross-pollination of memorized information. AI will win that game, hands down.

I agree that we’re at the point of “a little too late,” but when I look at the arc of human history, I think that could apply throughout. Many of the things that are viewed as human strengths have led us down a merry path towards this.
